SUMMARY:2026 Indian Creek
DESCRIPTION:Project Name: Indian Creek \nDates: September 27-October 3 \nOn this fall fly-in project ITA volunteers will spend a week in the backcountry opening the Indian Creek Trail. This trail follows the creek through meadows and hot springs and sits below several peaks of the Salmon River Mountains. These trails are used by hunters\, boaters\, horse packers\, and backpackers wanting to explore the Middle Fork of the Salmon and the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness. An ITA crew will be here earlier in the year to address the first few miles\, and we’ll continue where they left off and push further into the wilderness! \nWe’ll will fly into the Indian Creek backcountry airstrip along the Middle Fork. From here pack support is tentatively available to bring us further up trail\, to a base camp about 3.5 miles up the trail near the Middle Fork of Indian Creek. In years past\, the trail was passable but very brushy\, and the further up trail the more crosscut work is to be done! At the end of the week\, we’ll backpack down to the Middle Fork for our flights back to civilization. \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. Failure to respond to your crew leader may result in being dropped from the project. See our FAQs\, reach out to your crew leader\, or contact ITA staff at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org if you have questions. \nTrails: Indian Creek Trail #225 \nItinerary: This is a Sunday-Saturday weeklong project. Sunday\, fly out and hike up to base camp along Indian Creek. On Friday afternoon\, return to camp near the airstrip for Saturday morning pickup and fly back to Cascade. \nFood Provided by ITA: No \nGear Packing List: Gear Checklist for Backpacking Projects \nCrew Leader: Mark Sugden and Terry Paterson \nEstimated Drive Time from Closest Town: Flying out of Cascade \nTrail Map: Click for trail map and elevation profile \nRefundable deposit: $50 \nWhy do I need to pay a deposit? We’ve had trouble with people backing out of trips at the last minute\, which can really affect the productivity of the overall project. By charging a refundable fee\, volunteers are less likely to cancel their reservations. Refunds will not be given to volunteers that do not show up or cancel their reservation. Exceptions will be made for medical reasons or unforeseen circumstances. Volunteers can choose to donate the deposit to ITA. All donations are tax-deductible and will go towards maintaining trails throughout Idaho. If you require assistance in paying for this fee\, please contact us at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org and we will waive the cost. \nDifficulty Rating \nHike: 3/5 Moderately Strenuous – 3.5 miles with only 500 feet elevation gain into camp. Hiking while carrying heavy packs and tools\, with pack support only for the hike into camp. See the linked map for the elevation profile. \nProject Work: 3/5 Moderately Strenuous – Lots of saw work\, brushing\, and some tread work. You can expect a wide range of weather conditions in late September\, please pack accordingly. \nVolunteer Spots Available: 10 of 10\nIf there are no volunteer spots available\, click “Sign Up” to get on our waitlist for this project! \nWaitlist Signups: 0 \nSign Up×Sign UpOops! SUMMARY:2026 Chimney Rock
DESCRIPTION:Project Name:  Chimney Rock (now located at Fault Lake) \nProject Dates: September 26 \nOn National Public Lands Day\, we’ll head out to work on this scenic trail climbing to Fault Lake along the crest of the Selkirk Mountains. \nTo accommodate a wide range of abilities and interests\, we’ll split into multiple work groups throughout the day. Volunteers who prefer a slower pace or a more moderate hike will focus on brushing along the lower sections of the trail\, while those who are comfortable hiking farther will head higher to help with log removal and tread work. This structure allows us to welcome volunteers of many experience and fitness levels. \nThe lower sections of the trail typically require significant brushing and tread rebuilding\, we will most likely not make it all the way up to the lake. With peak fall colors expected—and the option for a refreshing swim at the end of the day in the Pack River if it’s warm—this project is a fantastic way to wrap up the trail work season in northern Idaho. \nMore Information can be found on  All Trails. \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. Failure to respond to your crew leader may result in being dropped from the project. See our FAQs\, reach out to your crew leader\, or contact ITA staff at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org if you have questions. \nTrails: Fault Lake Trail #59 \nItinerary: One-day project- the crew leader will specify the meeting time & place in their pre-trip emails. Meet at the trailhead in the morning; work until midafternoon. \nFood Provided by ITA: No \nGear Packing List:  Gear Checklist for One-Day Projects  \nCrew Leader: Tom Dabrowski \nEstimated Drive Time from Closest Town: 1 hour from Sandpoint \nTrail Map: Click for trail map and elevation profile \nDifficulty Rating \nHike: 2/5 Moderately Strenuous – The first few miles are pretty flat\, with 2\,500 of elevation gain from the trailhead to the top. Generally suitable for beginner to moderately experienced hikers looking for a bit of a challenge and who are well-prepared (e.g.\, have worked out or hiked with a pack to prepare for the trip). See the linked map for the elevation profile. \nProject Work: 3/5 Moderately Strenuous – Repeated digging or sawing. Carrying tools and day packs.  Less strenuous brushing at the beginning.  Volunteers can pick trail duties based on comfort and ability level and are encouraged to work at their own pace. \nVolunteer Spots: Unlimited \nSign Up×Sign UpOops! SUMMARY:2026 Petersen Yurt - Women in the Wild
DESCRIPTION:Project Name:  Petersen Yurt  \nProject Dates:  September 26-27  \nITA's Women in the Wild trail projects are designed to create a supportive\, empowering\, and fun environment where women can learn new skills\, build confidence\, and connect with others who share a love for the outdoors. These all-female trail crews provide a unique space for volunteers to work together\, gain hands-on experience in trail maintenance\, and make a lasting impact on Idaho's public lands.  \nThis is the fourth year that ITA and Idaho Parks and Recreation have partnered to help clear and open trails in the Idaho City Yurt trail system!  After big windstorms over the winter\, there are more down trees than typical\, so lots of fun crosscut work is expected! This area is known for its scenic views and wide variety of recreational activities all year long. We'll spend a weekend working mostly on clearing logs and brushing with potential for some tread repair and replacing trail signs. In the evening\, volunteers have been invited to stay at the brand new Petersen Yurt and take advantage of its kitchen\, fire pit\, and outhouse. The Yurt sleeps six\, with lots of tent spots around too.  Join us for some glamping\, saw work\, and camaraderie!   \nMore info on the yurts at the IDPR Yurt Website.    \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. Failure to respond to your crew leader may result in being dropped from the project. See our FAQs\, reach out to your crew leader\, or contact ITA staff at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org if you have questions.  \nTrails: Trails TBD based on need after the snow melts\, but all accessed from the yurt.    \nItinerary: This is a weekend project. Crews can stay at the yurt starting Friday afternoon. Trail work all Saturday. Sunday–leave the yurt clean before heading out for another trail workday. Head home Sunday afternoon.    \nFood Provided by ITA:  No    \nGear Packing List: Gear Checklist for Car Camping\, Bring Your Own Food    \nCrew Leader: Beth Norton and Brenda Magnuson   \nEstimated Drive Time from Closest Town: About 40 minutes from Idaho City  \nRefundable deposit: $25  \nWhy do I need to pay a deposit? We've had trouble with people backing out of trips at the last minute which can really affect the productivity of the overall project. By charging a refundable fee\, volunteers are less likely to cancel their reservation. \nDifficulty Rating  \nHike: 2/5 Moderate – Yurt trails are typically an easy grade\, with some short climbs up to the yurts. Exact mileage may vary but hiking 2-5 miles a day with tools and day packs.   \nProject Work: 3/5 Moderately Strenuous – Several windstorms over the winter mean no shortage of downed trees to saw out this year. Repeated log out and some brushing/tread repair.  \nVolunteer Spots Available: 10 of 10\nIf there are no volunteer spots available\, click “Sign Up” to get on our waitlist for this project! \nWaitlist Signups: 0 \nSign Up×Sign UpOops! SUMMARY:2026 Middle Fork Payette
DESCRIPTION:Project Name:  Middle Fork Payette  \nProject Dates:  September 19-22  \nStarting at Boiling Springs\, we'll backpack north along the Middle Fork of the Payette River. We will be working on immediate log out and drainage needs to help address the effects of the 2024 wildfires east of Cascade. This trail follows the river for 15 miles\, ending at Clear Creek Summit and is enjoyed by hikers\, backpackers\, and hot springs enthusiasts. Quick action is needed to stabilize the trail and keep it open in the areas that burned\, and annual maintenance and log out is needed in the areas that did not. ITA worked the first 3.75 miles of trail last year\, and this crew will re-clear and push forward!   \nFrom the trailhead it is 3.75 miles into our planned base camp. There are eight creek crossings on the way\, but all can be safely navigated\, and we can hike in our creek crossing shoes for much of the way vs taking our boots on and off all day.  There is a lovely open spot among big ponderosas just off the river for us to camp. Listen for elk calls bouncing off the canyon walls at night!  From here\, we'll continue to work north clearing\, fixing tread\, and brushing up as far as we can.  On the last full day\, we'll pack up early to camp at a well-established hot springs for the last evening together\, before retuning to cars the next morning.   \nMore info on All Trails   \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. Failure to respond to your crew leader may result in being dropped from the project. See our FAQs\, reach out to your crew leader\, or contact ITA staff at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org if you have questions.  \nTrails: Middle Fork Payette River Trail #033  \nItinerary: This is a four-day project. Welcome to camp at the trailhead the night before\, for a morning start backpacking/working on Saturday.  Working Saturday – Monday\, and Tuesday back to the trailhead and heading home.    \nFood Provided by ITA: No – This project is eligible for backpacking food per diem.  More information here     \nGear Packing List: Gear Checklist for Backpacking Projects  \nCrew Leader: Taylor Mailly and Patti Stieger   \nEstimated Drive Time from Closest Town: 1 hour from Garden Valley  \nTrail Map:  Click for trail map and elevation profile   \nRefundable deposit: $50   \nWhy do I need to pay a deposit? We've had trouble with people backing out of trips at the last minute which can really affect the productivity of the overall project. \nDifficulty Rating  \nYou should have experience with backpacking and be in good hiking condition with broken-in and tested gear. This is a remote backcountry project\, so injuries such as sprains and blisters or even extreme fatigue from not being properly conditioned can quickly become a big safety issue.  If you are unsure about the proper gear or about preparing for a trip\, please reach out to trails@idahotrailsassociation.org.   \nHike: 4/5 Strenuous – Lots of creek crossings bumped this up to a four vs a three\, but we scheduled later in the season to avoid high water.  Once at camp\, only one creek crossing to get to the project site past here.  No more than four miles round trip is expected for the maximum hike.  The trail follows the river\, dropping gently in elevation\, with some steep but short sections.  Carrying all personal gear and trail tools. See the linked map for the elevation profile.  \nProject: 3/5 Moderately Strenuous – Crosscut and log out to clear trail. Tread work as needed to ensure proper drainage.  \nVolunteer Spots Available: 10 of 10\nIf there are no volunteer spots available\, click “Sign Up” to get on our waitlist for this project! \nWaitlist Signups: 0 \nSign Up×Sign UpOops! DESCRIPTION:Project Name: Hells Canyon – Sheep Creek  \nProject Dates: September 13-17  \nThis unique project will take volunteers on an adventure from mountain top to canyon bottom! Starting at Windy Saddle Trailhead high in the Seven Devils\, the crew will descend an incredible 6300 feet in elevation all the way to the Snake River in Hells Canyon. From here\, a jet boat will take us to Pittsburg Landing\, and we'll shuttle all back to vehicles and head home.   \nThe trail follows the East Fork of Sheep Creek at its origins just under the saddle\, taking a detour along the canyon walls and into the Lightning Creek draining\, before joining back up with Sheep Creek and following it all the way to the Snake River. Volunteers will backpack and work down\, bumping camp along as they go. There are some great camps along the route\, and this trail is used by hunters\, backpackers\, and people day hiking from the top down or bottom up! This is a great opportunity to experience all the Hells Canyon Wilderness has to offer\, top to bottom!   \nCheck out this ITA Trail Spotlight for Sheep Creek!  \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. SUMMARY:2026 Hida Point Loop
DESCRIPTION:Project Name: Hida Point Loop  \nProject Dates: August 23-29  \nThis fly-in project will drop volunteers deep in the backcountry for a week of backpacking and trail work in the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness. Starting from Chamberlain backcountry airstrip\, we'll backpack north along the Chambelain Trail\, working towards Hida Point. As work and time allow\, we hope to continue working and bumping camp along the Arctic Point\, White Bird Meadow\, Hida Ridge\, and Harlan Meadows trails.   \nThese trails connect to form a loop through meadows\, up and over ridges\, through burned areas and lush green trees. ITA has been working on clearing trails in this area for many years now\, with no shortage of downfall each year. This crew will be continuing off the work of the Wilderness Immersion projects in 2023 and 2025. All parts of this loop have been touched by ITA in the last few years\, and this crew hopes to connect all the work! This is a great opportunity to work in a very remote area of the Frank Church and help preserve a remote trail system.   \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. Failure to respond to your crew leader may result in being dropped from the project. See our FAQs\, reach out to your crew leader\, or contact ITA staff at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org if you have questions.  \nTrails: Chambelain Trail #1\, Arctic Point #25\, White Bird Meadow #29\, Hida Ridge #27\, and Harlan Meadows #28 trails.  \nItinerary: This is a Sunday-Saturday weeklong project. Meet at the McCall airport early Sunday morning to fly in. Begin hiking and clearing from the airstrip\, carrying all tools and personal gear. Work\, bump camp as needed. Return to the airstrip by Friday evening. Saturday morning\, picked up by the plane to head back to McCall.  \nFood Provided by ITA: No   \nGear Packing List: Gear Checklist for Backpacking Projects  \nCrew Leader: Alisa and Gregg Rettschlag and Dan Appel   \nEstimated Drive Time from Closest Town: Flying from McCall  \nTrail Map: Click for trail map and elevation profile   \nRefundable deposit: $50   \nWhy do I need to pay a deposit? We've had trouble with people backing out of trips at the last minute which can really affect the productivity of the overall project. If you require assistance in paying for this fee\, please contact us at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org and we will waive the cost.   \nDifficulty Rating  \nYou should have experience with backpacking and be in good hiking condition with broken-in and tested gear. This is a remote backcountry project so injuries such as sprains and blisters or even extreme fatigue from not being properly conditioned can quickly become a big safety issue. If you are unsure about the proper gear or about preparing for a trip\, please reach out to trails@idahotrailsassociation.org.   \nHike: 5/5 Very Strenuous – The trail climbs steadily\, then steeply out of Chamberlain Basin\, but once up there continues with more gentle ups and downs. Lots of hiking carrying heavy packs and tools is expected. The whole loop covers 27 miles; mileage per day will vary depending on the work. See the linked map for the elevation profile.  \nProject Work: 4/5 Strenuous – Cutting down trees\, repeated saw work. Some heavy lifting or digging. SUMMARY:2026 Alpine Way
DESCRIPTION:Project Name: Alpine Way  \nProject Dates: August 19-23  \nVolunteers will spend five days camping in the backcountry\, nestled beneath some of the highest peaks in the Sawtooth Range\, working on the Alpine Way Trail. Starting at Redfish Lake trailhead\, we'll backpack five miles into Marshall Lake and set up a base camp here. With big trees\, a lake to cool off in\, and beautiful scenery\, this is a great base camp to work out of!   \nThe first few miles from each trailhead see more regular maintenance but the middle section\, less accessible by car camping crews\, is harder to reach and here's where ITA can step in to help. ITA worked two miles on Alpine Way from camp last year and this year we'll return to reclear and push forward! We'll focus on log out\, with some brushing and tread work as needed. Lots of fun crosscut work is expected!   \nMore info on All Trails   \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. SUMMARY:2026 Goose Creek
DESCRIPTION:Project Name:  Goose Creek  \nProject Dates:   August 14-16  \nIn the proposed Great Burn Wilderness\, Goose Creek climbs up to Goose Lake and the divide that makes up the border of Idaho and Montana.  This area is known for its great fishing\, backcountry lakes\, lush forest\, and abundant wildlife!  We'll car camp near the trailhead along Lake Creek and work up Goose Creek Trail.   \nSince there are meadows and an abundance of moisture along this trail\, lots of brushing and alder removal is needed and well as tread and drainage work. It's 5.3 miles to the lake\, and unlikely we'll be able to cover the whole trail over just a weekend project\, but our work will make lasting progress.  Come early or stay a day after to day hike or backpack into one of the lakes accessed from here!   \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. Failure to respond to your crew leader may result in being dropped from the project. SUMMARY:2026 ESI Sixteen to One Creek Bridge Construction - Youth
DESCRIPTION:Project Name: Sixteen to One Creek Bridge Construction – Youth \nDates: August 7-9 \nITA's Youth Trail Crew Program provides opportunities for youth ages 14-18 to learn about the outdoors while building and maintaining hiking trails in a safe\, teamwork-oriented environment.  \nITA youth volunteers and partners will be working together to replace trail bridges on the Sixteen to One Trail in the Boise National Forest. South of Warm Lake\, four bridges burned in the first two miles during the 2024 Goat Fire.  This trail is used by all user groups so having bridges is much appreciated not just from hikers\, but also the two wheeled and four-legged communities that would frequent these trails! \nThis is a beautiful drive along the South Fork Salmon River that climbs over passes and through meadows to the destination at the end of Stolle Meadows Road. We'll car camp here and hike up to 1.5 miles one way into the project site \nMore info in the Hikers Guide to McCall and Cascade \nITA's youth projects are completely free for volunteers to join\, and all food is provided. Gear can be borrowed from ITA if needed with advance notice\, or youth may apply for scholarships to purchase gear they need through the Splattski Outdoor Access Fund.   \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. SUMMARY:2026 Twin Lakes
DESCRIPTION:Project Name: Twin Lakes  \nProject Dates: August 5-9  \nHigh above Rapid River\, volunteers will work on clearing the trails that access Twin Lakes\, a pretty lake basin nestled at the base of Echols Mountain. Meeting at the trailhead just east of Huckleberry Campground\, we'll hike with day packs and some tools while a packer brings our gear about 4 miles to Bear Saddle\, where we'll camp for the first few days while working the trail to Twin Lakes. We'll then move camp ourselves (no pack support) to Twin Lakes and continue working on the Echols Ridge Trail that accesses the lakes from the northeast. These lakes are a hidden gem with great camping! Lots of trails coming from Rapid River intersect here\, and we'll work up and down the Twin Lakes Creek and Echols Ridge trails as far as time allows. A packer will come to retrieve our gear on the last day.  \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. Failure to respond to your crew leader may result in being dropped from the project. SUMMARY:2026 Bean Bacon the Sequel
DESCRIPTION:Project Name: Bean Bacon the Sequel  \nProject Dates: August 2-8 \nThis weeklong project is the second phase of our work on the Bean–Bacon loop\, continuing the trail maintenance we began earlier in the season on this spectacular backcountry route in the Bitterroot Mountains. The trail winds through old-growth forest\, high ridge lines\, meadows\, alpine lakes\, and hiking along the Wild & Scenic St. Joe River\, offering a stunning setting for a week of stewardship.  \nOver the course of the week\, we'll return to the loop to continue clearing downed logs\, brushing\, and restoring tread\, so the trail remains accessible and enjoyable for hikers and backpackers. The Bean–Bacon loop is known for its scenic variety — towering pines\, mossy streams\, mountain views\, and open meadows — making this an unforgettable place to work and explore.  \nWe'll establish a backcountry base camp with pack support\, with the exact campsite to be determined based on how far the first project group progresses. From camp\, we'll organize into work groups each day to tackle trail maintenance needs. Expect hands-on maintenance — no specialized experience is required\, and tools and guidance will be provided — along with plenty of time to enjoy the setting and camaraderie of a multi-day trail crew.  \nThis is a unique opportunity to experience a supported wilderness camp and help steward a stunning backcountry trail alongside fellow volunteers.  \nMore Information: All Trails for the Bean Bacon Loop   \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. Failure to respond to your crew leader may result in being dropped from the project. See our FAQs\, reach out to your crew leader\, or contact ITA staff at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org if you have questions.  \nTrail: Bean Bacon #66  \nItinerary: Arrive at Line Creek Stock Camp Saturday afternoon/evening. Meet packer Sunday morning to hike into base camp; the packer will pack gear. Work Monday-Friday with a day off mid-week to relax\, fish\, and explore. Saturday morning\, the packer will return to bring gear back to the trailhead. There is a potential to move camp mid-week\, depending on project work. Crew leader will specify the meeting time & place in their pre-trip emails.  \nFood Provided by ITA: Yes  \nGear Packing List: Gear Checklist for Backpacking Projects with Pack Support  \nCrew Leader: Don McIntosh  \nEstimated Drive Time from Closest Town: 1.5 hours from Avery\, Idaho   \nTrail Map: Click for trail map and elevation profile   \nRefundable deposit: $50  \nWhy do I need to pay a deposit? We've had trouble with people backing out of trips at the last minute\, which can really affect the productivity of the overall project. \nDifficulty Rating  \nYou should have some experience with backpacking and be in good hiking condition with broken-in and tested gear. This is a remote backcountry project\, so injuries such as sprains and blisters or even extreme fatigue from not being properly conditioned can quickly become a big safety issue. If you are unsure about the proper gear or about preparing for a trip\, please reach out to trails@idahotrailsassociation.org   \nHike: 4/5 Strenuous –  The hike to the Bean Bacon loop through Line Creek and Broken Leg Trail is approximately 5.6 miles\, with a gradual uphill climb and rolling terrain totaling about 2\,500 feet of elevation gain. Once we reach the St. Joe River\, where the loop begins\, we'll continue along the trail to the point where the previous crew concluded their work and camp nearby. Each day\, we'll hike from camp to our work site\, with distances gradually increasing as we progress farther along the loop\, possibly moving camp midweek. Bacon Loop Trail  \nProject Work: 3/5 Moderately Strenuous – Repeated digging or sawing\, the potential for some heavy lifting. Carrying tools and packs up to five miles each day. Volunteers can pick trail duties based on comfort and ability level and are encouraged to work at their own pace.  \nVolunteer Spots Available: 10 of 10\nIf there are no volunteer spots available\, click “Sign Up” to get on our waitlist for this project! \nWaitlist Signups: 0 \nSign Up×Sign UpOops! SUMMARY:2026 Little Queens River
DESCRIPTION:Project Name: Little Queens River  \nProject Dates: August 2-6 \nITA volunteers will continue to chip away at clearing the Queens River loop as part of a long-term effort by the Forest Service\, ITA\, Selway-Bitterroot Frank Church Foundation and the Pulaski Users Group. Continuing our efforts over the last few years\, we will start on the Little Queens River side\, backpacking and moving camp up as we work up the trail. This beautiful loop\, on the less traveled side\, is a gem of the Sawtooth Wilderness. Large sections have been logged out in the last few years\, but the 2013 fire through here means no shortage of trees continue to fall. Back-to-back ITA crews will clear logs and cut back brush where it obscures the trail.   \nStarting from the Queens River Trailhead near Atlanta\, Idaho\, we'll have pack support to haul tools and gear into our first camp\, swapping out with the ITA crew hiking out! Trail conditions\, and progress of the previous crew will dictate where we camp. The tentative camp is at the junction with Browns Lake\, about 8.5 miles up the trail. Depending on the work we find out there\, we may stay here for the duration or bump camp further up (no pack support for this part) once during the project. On the last day\, we'll hike out and head home!   \nMore info on All Trails (for the whole loop)  \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. SUMMARY:2026 Slate Lake - Youth
DESCRIPTION:Project Name: Slate Lake – Youth  \nDates: July 30 – August 2  \nITA's Youth Trail Crew Program provides opportunities for youth ages 14-18 to learn about the outdoors while building and maintaining hiking trails in a safe\, teamwork-oriented environment.  \nThis four-day youth trail project will be based out of a car camp at the Slate Lake trailhead in the Gospel Hump Wilderness\, offering expansive views into one of Idaho's most rugged and remote landscapes. Camping right at the trailhead allows the crew to work directly from camp each day\, focusing on trail maintenance along a popular route known for its excellent fishing opportunities and steady visitor use. With the 444 Road graded last summer\, the drive in from Grangeville is straightforward\, making access easy while still feeling truly backcountry. The project will emphasize crosscut saw work\, with plenty of opportunities to remove downed logs and keep this well-loved trail open and passable.  \nThroughout the project\, participants will focus on hands-on trail maintenance tasks such as crosscut sawing\, brushing\, and improving trail tread\, while also sharing responsibility for camp life. Youth will help with setting up and maintaining camp\, managing tools\, keeping common areas clean\, and following Leave No Trace principles.   \nITA's youth projects are completely free for volunteers to join\, and all food is provided. Gear can be borrowed from ITA if needed with advance notice\, or youth may apply for scholarships to purchase gear they need through the Splattski Outdoor Access Fund.   \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. Failure to respond to your crew leader may result in being dropped from the project. See ourFAQs\, reach out to your crew leader\, or contact ITA staff at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org if you have questions.  \nTrails: Hump Trail #313  \nItinerary: This is a four-day project. The crew will meet Thursday afternoon to set up and go over trail and project safety. On Friday and Saturday\, participants will work along the Slate Lake Trail\, focusing on trail maintenance tasks and returning to camp each evening. On Sunday\, the crew will break down and clean up camp before waiting to be picked up that afternoon.   \nFood Provided by ITA: Yes – Cook   \nGear Packing List: Gear Checklist for Car Camping\, Food Provided   \nCrew Leader: Val Armichardy and James Grantham   \nEstimated Drive Time from Closest Town: 2 hours from Grangeville  \nTrail Map: Click for trail map and elevation profile  \nYouth Trip Selection:   \nYouth trip sign-ups will be open until March 22nd. Although early sign-ups will be prioritized\, ITA leadership and staff may adjust the final crews to maximize trip experience and provide opportunities for the greatest number of youth participants. To help facilitate trip assignments\, please sign up for your preferred trip and include alternate trips you could participate in\, should the preferred trip not be available. You will receive notification of trip assignment via email prior to March 31st.  \nDifficulty Rating:  \nHike: 2/5 Easy to Moderate – This project is car-camp based\, with daily hikes from camp to the work site. The trail follows gentle creek corridors and forested slopes with minimal elevation gain. Participants should be prepared for uneven terrain while carrying day packs\, water\, and basic tools.  \nProject Work: 3/5 Moderate – The work will focus on crosscut saw work\, brushing\, and trail tread improvement\, including removing downed logs and clearing rocks or debris. While physically engaging\, the tasks are manageable for motivated youth and provide a good introduction to backcountry trail maintenance.  \nVolunteer Spots Available: 10 of 10\nIf there are no volunteer spots available\, click “Sign Up” to get on our waitlist for this project! \nWaitlist Signups: 0 \nSign Up×Sign UpOops!
