SUMMARY:2026 Selway River South
DESCRIPTION:Project Name: Selway River South  \nProject Dates: June 10-14  \nCome enjoy a backcountry adventure along the headwaters of the Selway River! Starting at the Historic Magruder Ranger Station\, we'll backpack south from here\, cutting out logs as we go in a "cut and run" style project. This means more emphasis on log out and opening the trail as far as possible vs focusing on brushing and tread work. This trail is an important access point to the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness\, popular with day hikers and backpackers exploring the Magruder Corridor and an important connecting trail for hunters and outfitters.  \nOn the first night\, we will backpack to Upper Crossing (about 5 miles in) and as work allows bump camp further during the week. There are some great backcountry campsites all along the headwaters of the Wild and Scenic Selway River\, with a chance to cover up to 12 miles. The goal is to cover as much trail as possible during this project.   \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. DESCRIPTION:Project Name:  Lewis and Clark Trail Bridge  \nProject Dates:   June 11-14  \nThe Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest has asked ITA to assist with repairs to a trail bridge near the Lolo Creek Campground\, between Kamiah and Pierce. This bridge is part of the Lolo Trail\, an historic route of the Nez Perce (Ni-mii-puu) people and near Lewis and Clark Grove\, where part of the expedition camped in 1805. This trail has been designated as a national historic landmark\, situated in a beautiful old growth forest.   \nWe will car camp nearby and help repair the bridge where it crosses Ceder Creek. ITA leaders and Forest Service staff will be on site to help guide repairs. Simple carpentry work is expected; no experience needed from volunteers!  \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. SUMMARY:2026 Trapper Creek - Youth
DESCRIPTION:Project Name: Trapper Creek – Youth \nDates: June 11 – June 14 \nITA’s Youth Trail Crew Program provides opportunities for youth ages 14-18 to learn about the outdoors while building and maintaining hiking trails in a safe\, teamwork-oriented environment. \nThis four-day project will be ITA’s only boat-in youth project in north Idaho. Participants will travel by boat to Trapper Creek Campsite on the northeast end of Upper Priest Lake and camp right along the shoreline. The campsite offers beautiful lake views\, a sandy beach\, and opportunities for swimming and fishing after workdays. From camp\, the crew will work on a three-mile section of trail heading north toward the road on a route that has not been maintained in some time and will likely require extensive brushing. \nThe Trapper Creek Trail is an important connector that completes a full loop around Upper Priest Lake by linking to the Navigation Trail. It is also part of the Idaho Centennial Trail (ICT)\, a nearly 1\,000-mile route spanning the state that ITA helps maintain. Throughout the weekend\, youth will focus on brushing\, cutting logs\, and general trail clearing while learning safe tool use\, teamwork\, and trail work fundamentals. Crew members will also share responsibility for camp life and practice Leave No Trace principles while enjoying a remote\, wilderness-style camping experience. \nITA’s youth projects are completely free for volunteers to join\, and all food is provided. Gear can be borrowed from ITA if needed with advance notice\, or youth may apply for scholarships to purchase gear they need through the Splattski Outdoor Access Fund. \nProject information is subject to change. ITA volunteers will focus on clearing brush\, fallen logs\, and other trail obstacles to keep the nearby trails safe\, accessible\, and enjoyable for all. SUMMARY:2026 Moose Ridge
DESCRIPTION:Project Name:  Moose Ridge  \nProject Dates:   June 13-19  \nA backcountry adventure in the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness will bring the crew high above the Selway River to work on the Moose Ridge Trail\, one of the most remote sections of the Idaho Centennial Trail. We'll fly from McCall into Shearer\, a backcountry airstrip along the Selway River.  51 Ranch Outfitters will provide pack support to move gear up to a base camp. From here the crew will work on clearing the Moose Ridge Trail\, working north and south from base camp as time allows. Finally\, the crew will backpack back to the river\, before getting picked up and flown back to civilization on the last day!   \nThis section of the ICT may be some of the toughest for hikers to navigate on the whole 1000-mile trail because of downed trees and thick brush after 2017 wildfires burned much of the area. Opening this section is not just a benefit for long-distance hikers (who greatly appreciate our efforts)\, but these trails would be used by horse packers\, hunters\, and backpackers once clear! ITA\, the Forest Service\, and Selway Bitterroot Frank Church Foundation have all put time into re-opening and maintaining this section of trail over the last several years.  This project immediately follows the ITA Ditch Creek project\, where that crew will help ensure the trail is open for us to get to camp! Between the two projects\, ITA will make a big impact on one of the most overgrown sections of the ICT!  \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. DESCRIPTION:Project Name: Queens River – Youth  \nDates: June 17 – 21   \nITA's Youth Trail Crew Program provides opportunities for youth ages 14-18 to learn about the outdoors while building and maintaining hiking trails in a safe\, teamwork-oriented environment.  \nThis season in the Sawtooth Wilderness\, ITA will host a youth trail work project focused on improving access along the Little Queens and Queens River Trails. The crew will be based at the Queens River Trailhead\, camping beneath rugged granite peaks and dense forest\, with the river close by and sweeping Sawtooth views in every direction. Each day\, participants will head out to work on trail and return to camp in the evenings to relax\, share meals\, and take in one of Idaho's most scenic and remote landscapes.  \nTrail work will primarily involve cutting out downed logs and restoring passability along these routes- work that is both physically demanding and deeply rewarding. There is always more to clear in this area\, and the crew will contribute to a multi-year effort to reopen the full Queens River loop\, with additional ITA crews continuing later in the season. With guidance from crew leaders\, youth will also take part in daily camp life\, including meal setup and cleanup\, supporting the volunteer cook\, managing water and sanitation\, and accounting for tools. Volunteers will learn and follow Leave No Trace principles and project safety expectations while building practical skills\, teamwork\, and confidence in a true wilderness setting.   \nITA's youth projects are completely free for volunteers to join\, and all food is provided. DESCRIPTION:Project Name:  Thompson Pass  \nProject Dates:  June 20-21 \nJoin us for a weekend trail restoration project on the historic Raven Gulch and Barton Creek trails in the Coeur d'Alene Ranger District near Thompson Pass\, on the Idaho–Montana border. These trails were identified by crew leaders as long-forgotten routes that have not received Forest Service maintenance in many years. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)\, they represent an important piece of trail history and craftsmanship that deserves to be preserved.  \nVolunteers will spend the weekend clearing brush\, removing fallen trees\, and restoring sections of trail corridor to help reclaim these historic paths before they are lost to time. We'll be car camping at the trailhead\, enjoying the surrounding wilderness while connecting with fellow trail stewards. This project is a unique opportunity to explore a rarely visited area\, learn about the legacy of CCC trail building\, and play a direct role in protecting an important part of our public lands heritage. SUMMARY:2026 Hum Lake
DESCRIPTION:Project Name: Hum Lake   \nProject Dates: June 27  \nThis is ITA's annual clean-up day of the Hum Lake/Duck Lake Trails. We'll remove any trees that have fallen on the trail over the winter and clear out drains and water bars as we go. From the trailhead\, several trails branch off that lead to amazing views\, beautiful lakes\, and abundant wildflowers. We'll work towards Hum Lake and/or to Duck Lake depending on trail conditions. This area of the Payette National Forest offers many excellent hiking\, camping\, and fishing opportunities nearby.   \nThis was ITA's first project in 2010 and this year is our 16th anniversary! We're so excited to continue our work here and across the state. DESCRIPTION:Project Name:  East Fork Boulder   \nProject Dates: June 27  \nJoin us to work up the East Fork Boulder Creek Trail. Starting at the lower end near the Katka Face road\, this trail climbs high\, ending at Middle Mountain (elevation 6220'). This trail is in a scenic area with lots of history and an old mining settlement. We'll work the first few miles of the trail as it follows the creek\, removing logs and brush as well as tread work as needed. We will be making minor repairs to the bridge as well. This is a great area for folks looking for day hikes or backpacking trips into the Cabinet Mountains.   \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email.
