2023 Coeur d’Alene River

Volunteer Trail Work Project

Loading Events

A four-day project in the beautiful upper North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River. We’ll remove logs, cut brush, and do some tread work on this scenic National Recreation Trail that follows the river. We’ll stay in a great car camping area that has lots of tent sites, a good swimming hole, and a pit toilet.

Trail: Coeur d’Alene River National Recreation Trail #20

Itinerary: The crew leader will specify meeting time & place for Friday morning (volunteers welcome to camp Thursday night!) Work each day and return to camp in the evenings.  Finish up with a half-day on Monday and drive home.

Crew Leader: Julie Kallemeyn

More Information:  All Trails

Estimated Drive Time from Closest Town:  2 hours, 30 min from Pinehurst, Idaho

GAIA Map:  Coeur D’Alene River

Refundable deposit: $50

Why do I need to pay a deposit? We’ve had trouble with people backing out of trips at the last minute which can really affect the productivity of the overall project. By charging a refundable fee, volunteers are less likely to cancel their reservation. Refunds will not be given to volunteers that do not show up or cancel their reservation. Exceptions will be made for medical reasons or unforeseen circumstances. Volunteers can choose to donate the deposit to ITA. All donations are tax-deductible and will go towards maintaining trails throughout Idaho. If you require assistance in paying for this fee, please contact us at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org and we will waive the cost.

Difficulty Rating

Hike: 2/5 Moderate
Easy trail with very mild elevation gain/loss. Hike in gets longer each day as we work further out from camp. Generally suitable for beginner hikers. See the linked map for the elevation profile.

Project Work: 3/5 Moderately Strenuous
Repeated digging or sawing. Carrying tools and days packs. Volunteers can pick trail duties based on comfort and ability level and are encouraged to work at their own pace.
