Youth volunteers (ages 14-18) will be packed into a backcountry primitive camp at the junction of the Center Ridge and French Spur trails north of McCall, Idaho to spend a week camping and doing trail maintenance. This trail connects two others to form a loop and heads south toward Black Tip Mountain. Some sections of this trail have become difficult to navigate, and volunteers will work on opening it back up. This is a beautiful area with gentle trail grades, unlike much of Idaho where trails are steep and rugged.
With guidance from crew leads, volunteers will be involved in all aspects of camp life. This includes helping set out breakfast and lunch items, assisting the cook with dinner and dishes, ensuring water and sanitation supplies are available, and ensuring tools are accounted for.
Volunteers are expected to adhere to Leave No Trace best practices, and project safety expectations set by crew leaders.
Trail: Center Ridge Trail #504, French Creek Spur #308
Itinerary: Volunteers will join for a pre-trip zoom meeting before the project. Meet at North Fork Meadows off Warren Wagon Road just north of Upper Payette Lake Friday at noon to pack up and hike in. Set up camp and go over trail safety for the week. Friday afternoon-Tuesday midday, work on the trails, returning to camp each evening. Tuesday by noon, pack up camp for pick up and hike back to the trailhead to return home.
