This backpacking 101 project will provide a chance for new and experienced backpackers to get together and share ideas on how to better enjoy this sport. We will be working on the Marsh Creek Trail in the Frank Chruch River of No Return Wilderness. We’ll pack up together at the trailhead and discuss some best practices, and then hike the four miles to camp at the headwaters of the Middle Fork of the Salmon. We’ll work on improving the trail as we go, including dispersing fire rings, brushing and light tread work.
Trail: Marsh Creek Trail #237
Itinerary: Meet at Marsh Creek Trailhead early Saturday morning (there is camping at Lola Creek Campground for folks who arrive Friday evening). Go over gear and procedures at the trailhead, and hike into camp. Camp at Big Hole for the evening; Sunday morning finish up trail work and hike back to the trailhead.
