Volunteer Trail Work Project

Tenmile Creek is a remote trailhead off the old Sourdough Lookout Road and leads into the Gospel Hump Wilderness. The trail makes a gradual climb along the creek through dense thickets and open meadows, then makes a dramatic climb up the granite face to Bear Grass Ridge. We’ll work from the trailhead clearing trail in as far as we can over the week, returning to car camp each evening.

Trail: Ten Mile Trail #415

Itinerary: Crew meet at Tenmile Trailhead/Campground Wednesday evening to set up camp and go over trail safety. For the rest of the week we will work up trail as far as possible. Sunday, wrap up any project work and head home!

Crew Leader: Alex Cravener

Estimated Drive Time from Closest Town: About 1.5 hours from Grangeville

GAIA Map:  Ten Mile Trail

Refundable deposit: $50

Why do I need to pay a deposit? We’ve had trouble with people backing out of trips at the last minute which can really affect the productivity of the overall project. By charging a refundable fee, volunteers are less likely to cancel their reservation. Refunds will not be given to volunteers that do not show up or cancel their reservation. Exceptions will be made for medical reasons or unforeseen circumstances. Volunteers can choose to donate the deposit to ITA. All donations are tax-deductible and will go towards maintaining trails throughout Idaho. If you require assistance in paying for this fee, please contact us at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org and we will waive the cost.

Difficulty Rating

Hike: 2/5 Moderate
Gradual climb over the first few miles, uphill into the project site. Hike further each day as we cut further in. Carry day packs and tools. See the linked map for the elevation profile.

Project Work: 4/5 Strenuous
This trail hasn’t been cleared in several years, lots of crosscut work is expected. Consistent and repetitive digging, swinging, and/or saw work. Potential for some heavy lifting.
