Weekend Yurt Project Clearing Trails and Glamping at Idaho City Yurts

September 6 - September 7
Loading Events

Project Name: Hennessy Yurt

Dates: September 5-6

This is the third year that ITA and Idaho Parks and Recreation have partnered to help clear and open trails in the Idaho City Yurt trail system. This area is known for its scenic views and wide variety of recreational activities all year long. We’ll spend a weekend working mostly on clearing logs and brushing with potential for some tread repair and replacing trail signs. In the evening, volunteers have been invited to stay at the Hennessy Yurt (sleeps six, lots of tent spots around too) for some glamping and camaraderie. More info on the yurts at the IDPR Yurt Website.

Project information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. Failure to respond to your crew leader may result in being dropped from the project. See our FAQs, reach out to your crew leader, or contact ITA staff at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org if you have questions.

Trails: Trails TBD based on need after the snow melts, but all accessed from the yurt.

Itinerary: This is a weekend project. Crews can stay at the yurt starting Friday afternoon. Trail work all Saturday. Sunday–leave the yurt clean before heading out for another trail workday. Head home Sunday afternoon.

Food Provided by ITA: No

Crew Leader: Jess Evett

Estimated Drive Time from Closest Town: About 40 minutes from Idaho City

Refundable deposit: $25

Why do I need to pay a deposit? We’ve had trouble with people backing out of trips at the last minute which can really affect the productivity of the overall project. By charging a refundable fee, volunteers are less likely to cancel their reservation. Refunds will not be given to volunteers that do not show up or cancel their reservation. Exceptions will be made for medical reasons or unforeseen circumstances. Volunteers can choose to donate the deposit to ITA. All donations are tax-deductible and will go towards maintaining trails throughout Idaho. If you require assistance in paying for this fee, please contact us at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org and we will waive the cost.

Difficulty Rating

Hike: 2/5 Moderate – Yurt trails are typically an easy grade, with some short climbs up to the yurts. Exact mileage may vary but hiking 2-5 miles a day with tools and day packs.

Project: 2/5 Moderate – Project work will focus on brushing and work on the trail tread to ensure proper width and slope. Digging or swinging tools, bending or kneeling for light saw work and brushing. Volunteers can pick trail duties based on comfort and ability level and are encouraged to work at their own pace.
