Volunteer Trail Work Project

On this week-long youth trip, we’ll explore the Seven Devils Range in the Hells Canyon Wilderness! This fully supported trip will have pack support carry food and camp gear in and volunteers will only need to carry personal gear. Food will be provided by ITA and prepared by a volunteer cook. We will hike approximately six miles from Windy Saddle trailhead to Hibbs Cow Camp. Camp will be set up here and crew members will hike 1 mile to the work site each day. Work will be on the He-Devil Lake Trail #129 and will consist of two miles of log removal, brushing, and tread work. Volunteers will have a day off to explore the area, which includes multiple high-mountain lakes and panoramic views of Hells Canyon.

Difficulty Rating: 3 – Difficult: Hike medium distances from the trailhead and camp with elevation gain – this is an overnight backpacking trip. Support of an outfitter or pack assistance is available.

Estimated Drive Time to Meeting Spot: Windy Saddle Trailhead is approximately 16.5 miles from Highway 95 at the turn off near Riggins. The drive after turning off on the 7 Devils Road takes about 60 minutes.

Road Considerations: The paved road turns to gravel about halfway to the trailhead. The gravel portion of the road is generally in good condition.
