This weekend car camping trail project will have ITA volunteers working on the South Fork Salmon River, heading upriver toward Lawman Ford. We’ll focus on removing logs from the trail, brushing, and improving the tread. We’ll camp together right next to the river in the beautiful Salmon River Mountains. A Forest Service Archeologist will join us in the evening to talk about the rich history of the area. To get here you’ll travel through the towns of Secesh and Warren, Idaho. Warren is a great place to stop and see historic mining houses and sites, so plan for Friday as a “travel” day to explore on the way in!
Difficulty Rating: 2 – Moderate: Day trip trail work is performed a small to medium distance from a trailhead. Volunteers will carry a daypack and tools.
Estimated Drive Time to Meeting Spot: (From FS Website) From McCall, go north on Warren Wagon Road (Forest Road #21), then east on Forest Road #340. Plan for 2-3 hours to get to Shiefer Campground from McCall.
