Join us for a week-long fully supported trip in some of the most beautiful wilderness Idaho has to offer. The Bighorn Crags in the Frank Church Wilderness has incredible peaks and hoodoos, alpine lakes and streams, wildlife viewing and epic fishing. Volunteers will meet up at the Crags Campground and start the hike in on Sunday morning. Pack stock will help to bring in gear to the base camp at Mirror Lake. The project is improving the trail above Mirror Lake to Gentian Lake and brushing and improving back down the Mirror Lake Trail as far as the crew can get. Saturday packers will return to carry our gear back to the trailhead.

Difficulty Rating: 3 – Difficult: Hike a medium distance from the trailhead – this is a mullti-day, overnight backpacking trip. Support of an outfitter is available.

More Information: All Trails – above where we’ll be camped.

Estimated Drive Time to Meeting Spot: 3 hours from Challis, Idaho

Road Considerations: The route to the campground is on rough, steep dirt roads, and should be negotiated with care. Not recommended for RVs or cars with trailers. Check for travel conditions before you leave.

Refundable deposit: $50

Why do I need to pay a deposit? We’ve had trouble with people backing out of trips at the last minute which can really affect the productivity of the overall project. Refunds will not be given to volunteers that do not show up or cancel their reservation. Exceptions will be made for medical reasons or unforeseen circumstances. Volunteers can choose to donate the deposit to ITA. All donations are tax-deductible and will go towards maintaining trails throughout Idaho. If you need assistance paying the project fee, please contact us and we will waive the fee.
