North Fork Lick Creek (Full)

Volunteer Trail Work Project

Loading Events

This 5-day backpacking style trip will take volunteers into a beautiful hanging valley, tucked away off of Lick Crick Road outside McCall. This is a continuation of projects over the last three years on the North Fork Lick Creek, trying to tie into where we cleared from the Hum Lake side earlier this season. Crews will meet at the Secesh River Trailhead and hike up to the basecamp at the upper end of the NF of Lick Creek drainage. This is about a 7-mile hike with some elevation gain. The crew will then work back down the trail clearing logs and returning to the base camp at the end of the day. This is a backpacking trip and volunteers will hike in with tools and gear. To help lighten our loads (and our hearts?) we are being supported by pack goats who will help bring some gear into camp, and back to the trailhead at the end!

Difficulty Rating: 2 – Moderate: Backpacking trip a medium distance from a trailhead. Elevation gain (steepest part over the first 2 miles) Volunteers will carry gear and tools, with some pack support.

Estimated Drive Time to Meeting Spot: Plan on taking at least an hour and a half from McCall for the approximately 20-mile drive.

Road Considerations: The road to the Duck Lake trailhead, the start of the trail to Hum Lake, is rough but passable. It has washboards and rocky sections. But with care, pretty much any car can make it. Also plan on some serious sight-seeing along the way. Lick Creek Road passes quite a few popular trailheads and even one huge rock-climbing area, Slick Rock.

Refundable deposit: $50

Why do I need to pay a deposit? We’ve had trouble with people backing out of trips at the last minute which can really affect the productivity of the overall project. Refunds will not be given to volunteers that do not show up or cancel their reservation. Exceptions will be made for medical reasons or unforeseen circumstances. Volunteers can choose to donate the deposit to ITA. All donations are tax-deductible and will go towards maintaining trails throughout Idaho. If you need assistance paying the project fee, please contact us and we will waive the fee.
