Located on the Snake River in Hells Canyon, this project will focus on improving one rocky section of the Snake River National Recreation Trail. Only a short hike from camp, trail work will have the crew using specialized rock tools to chip out a tread into a rocky outcropping, which will involve a lot of hammer swinging! We’ll be car camped at Upper Pittsburg Landing and returning to camp in the evening on Saturday to enjoy a meal together. Arrive Friday afternoon/evening and take advantage of the Pittsburg Rock Art Interpretive Site, fishing, or hiking trails in the area!

Difficulty Rating: 2 – Moderate: Day trip trail work is performed a short distance from the trailhead. Volunteers will carry a daypack and tools.

More Information: All Trails

Estimated Drive Time to Meeting Spot: About 1.5 hours from Riggins, or 1 hour from White Bird.

Road Considerations: Pittsburg Landing is about 19 miles from White Bird Idaho on a gravel Forest Service road. The road gets steep, narrow and winding for the last few miles but is passable for any safe driver. Watch out for RVs and vehicles pulling trailers!
