Join us on a weeklong youth backpacking project in the Payette National Forest near McCall! Youth volunteers will work on the Split Creek/Loon Lake Trail starting on the south end at Secesh trailhead. ITA will provide backpacking meals and youth volunteers will be carrying all their gear. We’ll camp at the trailhead and work for a day before loading up our packs and heading further up the trail Tuesday. We’ll keep clearing trail and working up, bumping camp until we reach Loon Lake. Youth volunteers will have a day off to relax and explore, where we’ll visit the B-25 bomber that crashed at Loon Lake in the 40’s. Pack stock will meet us at the lake on Saturday and pack our gear back to Chinook Campground.

Difficulty Rating: 3 – Difficult: Hike medium to long distances from the trailhead – this is an overnight backpacking trip. Support of an outfitter or pack assistance is not available until the end.

More Information: Forest Service Website

Estimated Drive Time to Meeting Spot: Drop off at Sescesh River Trailhead, pick up at Chinook Campground.

Road Considerations: Roads to both drop off and pick up are rough but passable by any vehicle. Plan for about an hour and a half from McCall for both
