SUMMARY:2026 High Dive - Deep Creek
DESCRIPTION:Project Name: High Dive – Deep Creek  \nProject Dates: July 12-18  \nTo the west\, Six Lakes Basin\, Deep Creek\, and the southern Seven Devils Mountains\, and trails that lead into Hells Canyon and the Snake River. To the east\, Echols Mountain and trails heading to Twin Lakes in the head of the Rapid River drainage. This trip puts volunteers on the ridge in the middle\, exploring both sides! With incredible views\, volunteers will car camp along Black Lake Road (before the road deteriorates in quality closer to the lake) and work on the three trails that start right by camp. Log out\, brushing\, tread work\, drainage; each trail will bring a unique trail work experience each day.  \nDeep Creek Trail descends down\, following the creek into Hells Canyon\, where ITA will be working on the bottom section earlier in the spring. From the road\, it drops into the basin where several springs feed into Deep Creek. Horse Pasture Basin Trail is a main trail for stock and backpackers to access the southern Seven Devils\, into Six Lakes Basin\, Black Lake\, and Casey Mountain. This trail has less tree cover\, and more big views! Echols Ridge stays in the trees as it drops from the road and winds around Echols Peak. A second crew will be out in the fall to continue working on this trail\, backpacking into Twin Lakes hidden on the other side of Echols Mountain.   \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. Failure to respond to your crew leader may result in being dropped from the project. See our FAQs\, reach out to your crew leader\, or contact ITA staff at trails@#idahotrailsassociation.org if you have questions.  \nTrails: Deep Creek Trail #219\, Horse Pasture Basin Trail #173\, Echols Ridge Trail #187  \nItinerary: This is a Sunday-Saturday weeklong project. Sunday\, meeting in the afternoon to set up camp. Project work Monday-Friday\, with a day off as needed to relax or explore. Saturday\, wrap up any work\, pack up camp\, and head home!  \nFood Provided by ITA: Yes  \nGear Packing List: Gear Checklist for Car Camping\, Food Provided    \nCrew Leader: TBD \nEstimated Drive Time from Closest Town: 1 hour 30 minutes from Council  \nTrail Map: Click for trail map and elevation profile for the first few miles of each trail Deep Creek \, Horse Pasture Basin\, and Echols Ridge Trail.  \nRefundable deposit: $50   \nWhy do I need to pay a deposit? We've had trouble with people backing out of trips at the last minute\, which can really affect the productivity of the overall project. By charging a refundable fee\, volunteers are less likely to cancel their reservations. Refunds will not be given to volunteers that do not show up or cancel their reservation. Exceptions will be made for medical reasons or unforeseen circumstances. Volunteers can choose to donate the deposit to ITA. All donations are tax-deductible and will go towards maintaining trails throughout Idaho. If you require assistance in paying for this fee\, please contact us at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org and we will waive the cost.   \nDifficulty Rating  \nHike: 3/5 Moderately Strenuous –  Each trail has some elevation gain and loss\, between 1000 and 1600 feet depending on trail conditions and how far we can work on each one. No more than three miles of hiking one way per day is expected. See the linked map for the elevation profile.  \nProject Work: 3/5 Moderately Strenuous – Saw work and brushing\, with some digging and swinging tools. Potential for some tread work and rock fall removal. Carrying tools and day packs short distances.   \nVolunteer Spots Available: 0 of \nIf there are no volunteer spots available\, click “Sign Up” to get on our waitlist for this project! \nWaitlist Signups: 0 \nSign Up×Sign Up\n\n \n \n Waitlist Sign-up\n \n "*" indicates required fields \n \n This is a waitlist signup form not a signup to register for the project. SUMMARY:2026 Twin Lakes
DESCRIPTION:Project Name: Twin Lakes  \nProject Dates: August 5-9  \nHigh above Rapid River\, volunteers will work on clearing the trails that access Twin Lakes\, a pretty lake basin nestled at the base of Echols Mountain. Meeting at the trailhead just east of Huckleberry Campground\, we'll hike with day packs and some tools while a packer brings our gear about 4 miles to Bear Saddle\, where we'll camp for the first few days while working the trail to Twin Lakes. We'll then move camp ourselves (no pack support) to Twin Lakes and continue working on the Echols Ridge Trail that accesses the lakes from the northeast. These lakes are a hidden gem with great camping! Lots of trails coming from Rapid River intersect here\, and we'll work up and down the Twin Lakes Creek and Echols Ridge trails as far as time allows. A packer will come to retrieve our gear on the last day.  \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. Failure to respond to your crew leader may result in being dropped from the project. See our FAQs\, reach out to your crew leader\, or contact ITA staff at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org if you have questions.  \nTrails: Echols Ridge Trail #187\, Twin Lakes Creek Trail #328  \nItinerary: This is a five-day project. Hiking into Bear Saddle on Sunday\, set up base camp. Working Wednesday to Sunday\, bumpung camp once during the project.  Sunday afternoon\, packer returns to bring our gear back to the trailhead\, hiking back and heading home!   \nFood Provided by ITA: No   \nGear Packing List: Gear Checklist for Backpacking Projects  \nCrew Leader: Melanie Vining and Dan Appel   \nEstimated Drive Time from Closest Town: 1 hour 30 minutes from Council   \nTrail Map: Click for trail map and elevation profile   \nRefundable deposit: $50   \nWhy do I need to pay a deposit? We've had trouble with people backing out of trips at the last minute\, which can really affect the productivity of the overall project. If you require assistance in paying for this fee\, please contact us at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org and we will waive the cost.   \nDifficulty Rating  \nYou should have experience with backpacking and be in good hiking condition with broken-in and tested gear. This is a remote backcountry project\, so injuries such as sprains and blisters or even extreme fatigue from not being properly conditioned can quickly become a big safety issue. If you are unsure about the proper gear or about preparing for a trip\, please reach out to trails@idahotrailsassociation.org.   \nHike: 4/5 Strenuous –  The Upper Bear Creek Trail climbs steadily to our first camp at Bear Saddle\, 1600-1800 feet elevation gain over about 4 miles\, with several creek crossings (water will be low). Moving camp to Twin Lakes involves a 2-mile hike\, dropping 500 feet\, then climbing back 500 feet to Twin Lakes. These trails include many elevation gains and losses. Carrying day packs and some tools but carrying ALL gear and tools for the mid-week camp move. See the linked map for the elevation profile.  \nProject Work: 3/5 Moderately Strenuous – Lots of brushing with some log out and cutting. Digging and swinging tools for tread work as needed to ensure proper width and slope.  \nVolunteer Spots Available: 0 of \nIf there are no volunteer spots available\, click “Sign Up” to get on our waitlist for this project! \nWaitlist Signups: 0 \nSign Up×Sign Up\n \n \n Waitlist Sign-up\n \n "*" indicates required fields \n \n This is a waitlist signup form not a signup to register for the project.
