SUMMARY:2026 Selway River - Paradise
DESCRIPTION:Project Name: Selway River – Paradise  \nProject Dates: May 29-31  \nThe Selway River Trail follows the Wild and Scenic Selway River as it flows through the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness. This is an important main line trail for hikers\, backpackers\, boaters\, and stock to access this pristine wilderness area. ITA has been asked to help open it up for the season! Meeting Thursday night\, we'll work one day from Paradise Campground (the put in for boaters launching on the Selway)\, working to clear logs and brush as needed as far downstream as we can. On Saturday\, we'll load up light overnight packs and backpack downstream to Running Creek\, about 7 miles in. We'll work the remainder of the day\, camp out overnight here and in the morning pack up and hike back to the trailhead\, finishing any tree clearing as we go. This section gets cleared of logs each year\, so we're expecting to finish this stretch in this short amount of time. Several more ITA projects will benefit from the work we do this weekend\, as pack stock will be on this trail to support projects all summer long.   \nBeginner-friendly backpacking\, easy elevation hike\, beautiful views of the Selway with a quick overnight camp out in the wilderness\, and some meaningful trail work. What's not to love?!  \nMore info about the Selway River Trail can be found in this ITA trail spotlight\, written by a past crew leader!  \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. Failure to respond to your crew leader may result in being dropped from the project. See our FAQs\, reach out to your crew leader\, or contact ITA staff at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org if you have questions.  \nTrails: Selway River Trail #4  \nItinerary: This is a three-day project\, meeting on Thursday evening and starting work Friday morning. Returning to the trailhead to car camp Friday night. Saturday\, begin backpacking for one overnight\, retuning to cars and heading home Sunday. If needed\, we may have room for folks to arrive Friday evening to work Saturday/Sunday\, please contact trails@idahotrailsassociation.org.   \nFood Provided by ITA: No   \nGear Packing List: Gear Checklist for Backpacking Projects  \nCrew Leader: Ray Arguello and Zac Nichols   \nEstimated Drive Time from Closest Town: Approximately 3 hours from Darby\, Montana   \nTrail Map: Click for trail map and elevation profile   \nRefundable deposit: $25  \nWhy do I need to pay a deposit? We've had trouble with people backing out of trips at the last minute which can really affect the productivity of the overall project. By charging a refundable fee\, volunteers are less likely to cancel their reservation. Refunds will not be given to volunteers that do not show up or cancel their reservation. Exceptions will be made for medical reasons or unforeseen circumstances. Volunteers can choose to donate the deposit to ITA. All donations are tax-deductible and will go towards maintaining trails throughout Idaho. If you require assistance in paying for this fee\, please contact us at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org and we will waive the cost.   \nDifficulty Rating   \nHike: 3/5 Moderately Strenuous – Beginner friendly backpack with easy elevation gain/loss and light packs but still carrying all personal gear 7 miles one way into camp. See the linked map for the elevation profile.  \nProject Work: 3/5 Moderately Strenuous – Crosscut and saw work to remove logs from the trail is the priority\, cutting back and removing brushing growing in the trail if time allows. The weather in May can be unpredictable\, so please pack accordingly!  \nVolunteer Spots Available: 0 of \nIf there are no volunteer spots available\, click “Sign Up” to get on our waitlist for this project! \nWaitlist Signups: 0 \nSign Up×Sign Up\n\n \n \n Waitlist Sign-up\n \n "*" indicates required fields \n \n This is a waitlist signup form not a signup to register for the project. DESCRIPTION:Project Name: Selway River – Running Creek  \nProject Dates: June 21-27  \nNestled along the Selway Wild and Scenic River\, we will get our gear packed 7 miles into a base camp near Running Creek. We'll camp here for the week in the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness. Working with Forest Service staff\, the crew will help build crib/support walls where the trail tread is failing. This is an important main line trail for hikers\, backpackers\, boaters\, and stock to access the pristine Selway Bitterroot Wilderness\, and this work will make it safer for all users. In a lovely flat shaded area\, right next to a pack bridge spanning Running Creek (a great place to sit and contemplate life in the evenings)\, this is a beautiful spot to camp for a week!   \nWhat is a crib wall? Basically\, a support or retaining wall that helps hold up the trail\, typically made from rock or wood. You've probably hiked over these important structures without noticing them!   \nMore info about the Selway River Trail in this ITA trail spotlight \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email.
