SUMMARY:2026 Settlers Cedar Grove
DESCRIPTION:Venue Change Notice as of May 11: Please be aware that this project may be relocated. This winter\, the access road to Settler's Grove suffered significant storm damage\, including downed trees and multiple washouts. The U.S. Forest Service is not confident the road will be cleared and repaired before the project date. ITA is currently exploring alternative trail sites in the North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene River area. The Crew Leader will send an email approximately one month before the project with the confirmed location and scope of work. Thank you for your patience and for volunteering! \nProject Name:  Settlers Cedar Grove  \nProject Date: July 31 – August 2  \nIn this incredible area of the Idaho Panhandle National Forest is the Settlers Grove Ancient Cedar Grove. ITA will be working on the Settler's Grove Interpretive Trail\, which follows the west fork of Eagle Creek\, crossing over foot bridges through ancient cedars\, some estimated at over 600 years old. We will be car camping amongst these giants for a three-day project working on maintaining this popular and unique trail.    \nA fire in 2015 means smaller trees will fall on the trail each year\, and there are reports of thicker brush that will need to clear further down the trail. Last year\, the trail was logged out by the forest service and ITA volunteers. We will be maintaining it for continued use.   \nMore info and pictures available in this article from Onlyinyourstate.com and on All Trails.  \nProject information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. Failure to respond to your crew leader may result in being dropped from the project. See our FAQs\, reach out to your crew leader\, or contact ITA staff at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org if you have questions.  \nTrails: Settler's Grove Interpretive Trail #162  \nItinerary: This is a three-day project. The crew leader will specify the meeting time and place in their pre-trip emails. Meet Friday morning (welcome to camp starting Thursday!) Return to camp after each workday. Sunday\, wrap up by lunch and head home.   \nFood Provided by ITA: No    \nGear Packing List:  Gear Checklist for Car Camping\, Bring Your Own Food    \nCrew Leader: Tom McLaughlin  \nEstimated Drive Time from Closest Town: 2 hours from Coeur d'Alene  \nTrail Map: Click for trail map and elevation profile  \nRefundable deposit: $25   \nWhy do I need to pay a deposit? We've had trouble with people backing out of trips at the last minute\, which can really affect the productivity of the overall project. By charging a refundable fee\, volunteers are less likely to cancel their reservations. Refunds will not be given to volunteers that do not show up or cancel their reservation. Exceptions will be made for medical reasons or unforeseen circumstances. Volunteers can choose to donate the deposit to ITA. All donations are tax-deductible and will go towards maintaining trails throughout Idaho. If you require assistance in paying for this fee\, please contact us at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org and we will waive the cost.   \n Difficulty Rating  \nHike: 2/5 Moderate– The entire trail is five miles long\, with very little elevation gain in the first half for an exceptionally pleasant hike. After about 2.5 miles\, the trail begins to climb up towards Bloom Peak with a steeper incline. Carrying day packs and tools\, the distance we hike will be determined by the work to be done. See the linked map for the elevation profile.  \nProject Work: 3/5 Moderately Strenuous– Brushing and saw work\, digging\, and swinging tools to clear any logs out of the trail. Carrying tools and day packs short distances. Volunteers are encouraged to work at their own pace.  \nVolunteer Spots Available: 0 of \nIf there are no volunteer spots available\, click “Sign Up” to get on our waitlist for this project! \nWaitlist Signups: 0 \nSign Up×Sign Up\n\n \n \n Waitlist Sign-up\n \n "*" indicates required fields \n \n This is a waitlist signup form not a signup to register for the project.
