Project Name: Horse Creek
Project Dates: August 23-29
Between the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness and Montana's Bitterroot National Forest, volunteers will meet for a car camping project. There is a series of trails that start at the end of Horse Creek Road and ITA will focus on log out and rock/tread clearing on all. The Selway Bitterroot Frank Church Foundation has a project in the area after us, so we may pivot focus on one trail to help get them further into a backcountry base camp. We'll be car camping near Horse Creek Hot Springs Campground and carpool down the last 4 miles to the trailhead.
From the trailhead Reynolds Creek, Cayuse Creek, and Horse Creek trails all branch into the Wilderness. Reynolds Creek Trailheads north and follows the creek gently before climbing up to the ridge above and Blue Joint Peak (8576') and the Reynolds Lakes. Cayuse Creek Trail switchbacks along the contours of Mist Peak (8615'), eventually linking up to the trail that follows along the ridge. Horse Creek trail follows Horse Creek, dropping down to the Main Salmon River.
Project information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. Failure to respond to your crew leader may result in being dropped from the project. See our FAQs, reach out to your crew leader, or contact ITA staff at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org if you have questions.

Refundable deposit: $50
Why do I need to pay a deposit? We've had trouble with people backing out of trips at the last minute, which can really affect the productivity of the overall project. By charging a refundable fee, volunteers are less likely to cancel their reservations. Refunds will not be given to volunteers that do not show up or cancel their reservation. Exceptions will be made for medical reasons or unforeseen circumstances. Volunteers can choose to donate the deposit to ITA. All donations are tax-deductible and will go towards maintaining trails throughout Idaho. If you require assistance in paying for this fee, please contact us at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org and we will waive the cost.
