Loading Events

Project Name:  Magee Cabin

Project Dates:  September 11-13

Join us for a weekend of trail stewardship in the Coeur d'Alene Ranger District, where we'll be based at Magee Cabin in a serene forest setting. With full access to the cabin and space for outdoor camping, volunteers can enjoy a comfortable basecamp surrounded by towering trees and peaceful woodland.

From Magee Cabin, we'll split our efforts between Halsey Creek Trail and Little Elk Trail, tackling tasks such as clearing brush, removing fallen logs, and improving trail tread to keep the trails safe and accessible. These trails wind through beautiful, forested terrain, providing important access to the surrounding backcountry for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts.

This project is a great opportunity for volunteers of all experience levels to gain hands-on trail maintenance skills, work as part of a team, and make a meaningful impact on the trails and environment. Whether you're new to trail work or a seasoned volunteer, you'll leave with a sense of accomplishment, new skills, and connections with fellow trail stewards.

Project information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. Failure to respond to your crew leader may result in being dropped from the project. See our FAQs, reach out to your crew leader, or contact ITA staff at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org if you have questions.

Trails: Little Elk Trail #32, Halsey Creek #451

Itinerary: This is a three-day project. We will have a camp Thursday night at Magee Cabin, and we encourage you to join us to get to know each other before a weekend of working together. The crew leader will specify the meeting time in their pre-trip emails. We will begin Friday morning for a day of trail work, camping nearby. Finishing Sunday afternoon.

Food Provided by ITA: No

Gear Packing List:  Gear Checklist for Car Camping, Bring Your Own Food

Crew Leader: Jim Manning

Estimated Drive Time from Closest Town: 80 minutes from Pinehurst, Idaho

Trail Map: Click for trail map and elevation profile for Little Elk and Halsey Creek

Refundable deposit: $25

Why do I need to pay a deposit? We've had trouble with people backing out of trips at the last minute which can really affect the productivity of the overall project. By charging a refundable fee, volunteers are less likely to cancel their reservation. Refunds will not be given to volunteers that do not show up or cancel their reservation. Exceptions will be made for medical reasons or unforeseen circumstances. Volunteers can choose to donate the deposit to ITA. All donations are tax-deductible and will go towards maintaining trails throughout Idaho. If you require assistance in paying for this fee, please contact us at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org and we will waive the cost.

Difficulty Rating

Hike: 3/5 Moderately Strenuous First couple miles of each trail remains flat as it follows the creek, before switching backing up the ridge to the upper trailhead. Volunteers hiking carrying day packs and tools.
