On February 8, 2022, we were shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of John Platt. John was one of the leaders of the Idaho Trails Association. He served on our Board of Directors, volunteered to lead many of our trail crews, was a valued teacher, and became a cherished friend. John made everyone feel a part of “the crew”, sharing his skills and love for the backcountry. He was an important part of the ITA family and the absence of his big smile in the middle of a tough hike on a hot day will be deeply felt. As another ITA member said when learning of his passing “John enriched my life and made this planet a better place”.

John Platt was an avid cycler, hiker, mountain climber, and all-around adventure expert. He will be remembered for his enthusiasm and knowledge about Idaho’s trails. Read more about John’s enduring legacy in his obituary and in the Idaho Statesman’s article about his life.
