Project Name:  Jackson Creek

Project Dates: July 10-12

Join us for a three-day weekend project on the Jackson Creek Trail in the Salmo-Priest Wilderness. This beautiful stretch of trail is part of the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail, and our work will focus primarily on logging out downed trees and restoring safe passage through the wilderness. We'll camp together at the trailhead and hike about two miles to the work site each morning.

This project is a collaborative effort with our partners at the Washington Trails Association (WTA). While their crew works east from the west end of Trail #311, we'll head west from the east end, meeting in the middle to reconnect this important wilderness route. It's a rewarding opportunity to be part of a cross-state partnership and help keep a nationally significant trail open and accessible.

More info can be found on All Trails.

Project information is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. Failure to respond to your crew leader may result in being dropped from the project. See our FAQs, reach out to your crew leader, or contact ITA staff at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org if you have questions.

Trails: Jackson Creek Trail #311

Itinerary: This is a three-day project. The crew leader will specify the meeting time and place in their pre-trip emails. We will have a camp on Thursday night, and we encourage you to join us to get to know each other before a weekend of working together. Work Friday until Sunday afternoon.

Food Provided by ITA: No

Gear Packing List:  Gear Checklist for Car Camping, Bring Your Own Food

Crew Leader: Jim Manning

Estimated Drive Time from Closest Town: About 1 hour from Priest River

Trail Map:  Click for trail map and elevation profile

Refundable deposit: $25

Why do I need to pay a deposit? We've had trouble with people backing out of trips at the last minute, which can really affect the productivity of the overall project. By charging a refundable fee, volunteers are less likely to cancel their reservations. Refunds will not be given to volunteers that do not show up or cancel their reservation. Exceptions will be made for medical reasons or unforeseen circumstances. Volunteers can choose to donate the deposit to ITA. All donations are tax-deductible and will go towards maintaining trails throughout Idaho. If you require assistance in paying for this fee, please contact us at trails@idahotrailsassociation.org and we will waive the cost.

Difficulty Rating

Hike: 2/5 Moderate Trail climbs up about 1,000 feet from camp at a steady incline. See the linked map for the elevation profile.

Project Work: 2/5 Moderate Lots of crosscut work expected, repeated sawing.  Carrying tools and day packs up to 5 miles each day.  Volunteers can pick trail duties based on comfort and ability level and are encouraged to work at their own pace.
